Believe it or not, you can be fashionable and comfortable at the same time. And, believe it even more or not, gays relish the opportunity to do so. (Looking that good can get exhausting).
Thankfully there's Steven Alan and the label's ever increasing surplus of great looking shirts that are versatile enough to wear with a suit or sweats. Our recent favorite is the felt shirt set for an early Spring release in stores, meaning you should be ready to buy one by January. We love the colors, we love the slim but relaxed fit, we love the so-soft-it could-be-your-blanky fabric -- we just plain love it. Throw yours (or your boyfriend's) on and you're sure to love it too. -- SETH PLATTNER
P. Diddy requires that all his ladies get Brazilian waxes because he does it too. "If men require women to go through the pain, we should return the favor," he says. [Jezebel]
In a video interview, Chace Crawford (pictured) doesn't know a) what beige means or b) who Alexander Wang is. The only reason we forgive him is because of his yummy biceps. Watch. Drool. [The Cut] Pete Wentz is giving up eyeliner. And we're not. [Style Crunch] Polygamy is so in right now. The gayest of the gays came out Friday night for the 14th annual Out 100, and while the party raged on with the designers, stylemakers, entertainers and artists of the year working the crowd and the open bar, your faithful Out bloggers were working hard to bring you the inside scoop to what was undoubtedly the night's hottest party (seriously -- you should have seen this crowd!).
In addition to our oh-so-witty online staff, guest bloggers were on hand throughout the night to give you their party-goer perspective of speakers, performers and award winners. Among them: T Cooper, Ari Shapiro, Adele and, yours truly, Seth from Stylelist.
It was an ultra-classy affair full of fun, fashion and fa -- well you get it. Congratulations to all our honorees and thanks so much to everyone who made it a great night! Until next year...
In response to Marc Jacob's love of the man skirt, big department stores are weighing in on their fashion merit. Barney's says yay (they think they already carry them) but Bloomingdales is leaning towards nay. [The Cut] Among the fashion elite, only one man could create a suit impeccable yet durable enough for James Bond. Tom. Tom Ford. [Starpulse]
Prada won't let Hermes have all the fun: the Italian label has designed their own special edition Hyundai Genesis sedan. To be unveiled at the 2009 Seoul Motor show, details on the car's bells and whistles are still under wraps, but we're expecting supple leather, wood trim and a hefty price tag. [Yosax]
Antonia Marras, who already designs Kenzo's women's RTW line, has now been given creative control over the label's menswear line and accessories. Marras’ promotion marks Kenzo’s first headline men’s designer in nearly
a decade; the men’s collection had been in the hands of its
design studio since 2001, when Roy Krejberg exited the brand. [DNR]
Though we generally like to maintain our exclusivity here at Stylelist
-- top tier events aren't for everyone, ok? -- sometimes it's fun to let the
laymen in.
Tonight we're going to give you an all-access pass to the Out 100 gala launch party. Starting around 8 p.m. eastern time, go to Out100.out.com
to eavesdrop on celebrity arrivals, get gossip and blogging direct from
VIPs, see backstage photos and -- well, whatever else happens.
Please join us for an elegantly queer evening as we celebrate this
year's honorees. (And please pardon if we go radio silent for the rest of the
day as we finish primping and preening for the party -- this is Stylelist remember.)
We love to shop. But we love to shop even more when we are furthering a good [gay] cause.
Last night was the kick-off party for Housing Work's Fashion for Action, a sample sale featuring more then a million dollars in designer merchandise at 50-70% off, open to the public November 14-16 at the Chelsea Thrift Shop, 143 West 17th street. This year’s benefit is hosted by Marc Jacobs and with his help they hope to raise more then $500,000 for homeless people living with HIV and AIDS in New York City.
Helping to usher in attendance to the shop-a-thon were a handful of big industry names, proving that the fashionable not only know where to shop for deals, but also realize the necessity in helping Housing Work's fight against HIV/AIDS. Among the rack-raiders were top models
Ermina Cunmulaj and Ana Mihajlovic, designers John Bartlett (pictured) and Steven Alan, and Miss New York
Leigh Taylor-Smith who buddied up with Legally Blonde Broadway star Kate Shindle (pictured).
As we said, the event is on for two more days, and there are still loads of clothes left from the extensive list of designer donors, meaning more deals and more potential for spotting VIPs. For more information on Housing Works, complete event details and a full list of participating designers check out the Housing Works website.

P Diddy's new frangrance, I am King, is targeted at Barack Obama supporters. "When you see Barack Obama, you see a strong, elegant black man and when people see my ad, it's almost like that's the trend," he says. Diddy sharing the spotlight with someone else? The boys (and girls, but whatever) of Summer Fashion week in Rio. Just a reminder, summer = swimsuits. Enjoy. [The Cut]
"I've been using that phrase for a couple of decades, and I'll tell you
where it came from. Teaching design my students make things, needless
to say, and in the course of doing that they encounter challenges,
obstacles and in many cases their initial reaction is to abandon the
project, just get rid of it and start all over, start from scratch,
with materials, concepts, everything. And I don't permit that because I
don't believe you learn anything from it. It's really important to take
a project that has gone slightly awry, wrestle with it, offer up a
diagnosis of what's going wrong and then a prescription on how to fix
it. And I would call it 'make it work.'"
For the past three years Lacoste has invited a non-fashion designer to re-imagine its iconic polo, resulting in a piece that blends fashion with music, art, design -- pretty much everything that influences fashion in one way or another. For this year's collaboration, R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe took his queer talents to a shirt, producing a two tone photographic image that depicts a crowd at a stadium concert from the perspective of a performer on stage. How meta.
Stipe's shirt will appear in the Visionaire 54 Sport, a bound magazine book devoted to the most innovative and inspiring fashion and art imagery as part of the Visionaire bookzine series published three times a year. Stipe was one of the 12 influencers invited to participate in the special edition.
The shirt itself is available in three colors for men -- Ore, Palm Green and Mother of Pearl -- and will be sold in Lacoste stores worldwide, but, with only 12,000 shirts to be produced you'd better act quick.
