Believe it or not, you can be fashionable and comfortable at the same time. And, believe it even more or not, gays relish the opportunity to do so. (Looking that good can get exhausting).

Thankfully there's Steven Alan and the label's ever increasing surplus of great looking shirts that are versatile enough to wear with a suit or sweats. Our recent favorite is the felt shirt set for an early Spring release in stores, meaning you should be ready to buy one by January. We love the colors, we love the slim but relaxed fit, we love the so-soft-it could-be-your-blanky fabric -- we just plain love it. Throw yours (or your boyfriend's) on and you're sure to love it too.

-- SETH PLATTNER

We love to shop. But we love to shop even more when we are furthering a good [gay] cause.

Last night was the kick-off party for Housing Work's Fashion for Action, a sample sale featuring more then a million dollars in designer merchandise at 50-70% off, open to the public November 14-16 at the Chelsea Thrift Shop, 143 West 17th street. This year’s benefit is hosted by Marc Jacobs and with his help they hope to raise more then $500,000 for homeless people living with HIV and AIDS in New York City.

Helping to usher in attendance to the shop-a-thon were a handful of big industry names, proving that the fashionable not only know where to shop for deals, but also realize the necessity in helping Housing Work's fight against HIV/AIDS. Among the rack-raiders were top models
Ermina Cunmulaj and Ana Mihajlovic, designers John Bartlett (pictured) and Steven Alan, and Miss New York
Leigh Taylor-Smith who buddied up with Legally Blonde Broadway star Kate Shindle (pictured).

As we said, the event is on for two more days, and there are still loads of clothes left from the extensive list of designer donors, meaning more deals and more potential for spotting VIPs. For more information on Housing Works, complete event details and a full list of participating designers check out the Housing Works website.

where it came from. Teaching design my students make things, needless
to say, and in the course of doing that they encounter challenges,
obstacles and in many cases their initial reaction is to abandon the

For the past three years Lacoste has invited a non-fashion designer to re-imagine its iconic polo, resulting in a piece that blends fashion with music, art, design -- pretty much everything that influences fashion in one way or another. For this year's collaboration, R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe took his queer talents to a shirt, producing a two tone photographic image that depicts a crowd at a stadium concert from the perspective of a performer on stage. How meta.

Stipe's shirt will appear in the Visionaire 54 Sport, a bound magazine book devoted to the most innovative and inspiring fashion and art imagery as part of the Visionaire bookzine series published three times a year. Stipe was one of the 12 influencers invited to participate in the special edition.

The shirt itself is available in three colors for men -- Ore, Palm Green and Mother of Pearl -- and will be sold in Lacoste stores worldwide, but, with only 12,000 shirts to be produced you'd better act quick.

For the rest of the shirts in this year's catalog -- including Karl Lagerfeld's -- click here.
