TOMS Takes On Both Coasts

SUMMER_SampleSale

In everyone's-favorite-fashion-philanthropist news, TOMS shoes is having two noteworthy events that should perk up both coasts. For those of you out West, TOMS is having their summer sample sale next Saturday, July 11th, from 10 am to 7 pm at the TOMS' headquarters (3025 Olympic Blvd, Studio C, Santa Monica, CA 90404).

For any NYC boy that will be or needs a reason to go to Montauk, this July 4th TOMS is opening a pop-up store at the Sole East Resort, where they will carry an assortment of styles from the Spring and Summer 2009 collections.  “Now in our third year, TOMS Shoes is able to give shoes to children in need around the world, specifically Argentina, Ethiopia, and New Orleans in 2009,” said Blake Mycoskie, Founder & Chief Show Giver of TOMS Shoes. “The Hamptons encapsulates such a cool, easy lifestyle that it seemed the perfect place to open our second pop-up store. The boutique will help us reach our favorite East Coast customers this summer and as always, with every purchase, provide a new pair of shoes to children in need.”

Dr. Marten + Stüssy

Stussy-dr-martens-collab-desert-boot While the Dr. Marten and Raf Simon boot/sandal collaboration was questionable at best, thankfully a follow up partnership with Stüssy seems to have ended a little better. Debuting in August in Stüssy and Dr. Marten stores for just $135, the Desert Boot collection brings Dr. Marten craftsmanship with Stüssy sass. The suede finish and minimal design is all business, but the playfully colored shoe strings and sole accents are all party. They're also a great transitional boot for when the weather starts to cool down, but still has that hint of lingering summer.

David Beckham Designs for Adidas

Beckham_scoop Given a) all the attention he pays to his personal style and b) all the time he spends in underwear in front of camera, perhaps it was simply a matter of time before David Beckham started designing his own duds. While he hasn't gone the way of his better half and launched his own line, he did team up with Undefeated sneaker boutique owner James Bond to create a new line for Adidas Originals by Adidas. The collection comes from a philosophy of updated American sportswear in materials like leather, cashmere and silk. Shoes, accessories and thermal layering pieces will also be included. But, while the silhouette is so obviously David Beckham -- fitted on top, baggy on bottom -- don't expect to see him modeling or promoting the line himself. Lamentable, indeed.

UPDATE: Kanye West's LV Campaign NOT for LV

                     Kanye-amber

West debuted his Louis Vuitton sneakers during their F/W 09 runway show. Now, the world gets a closer look in the shoe's new ad campaign featuring -- who else -- Kanye himself. Also featured in the ad alongside Kanye and his kicks? Everyone's favorite arm candy, Amber Rose and...her ass. See the full campaign here

UPDATE: It turns out all these are not for an upcoming campaign. So what, prey tell, would he make Amber Rose show buttcrack for? A fashion spread? Shamless publicity? His own self-affirming collection of photography?

Quickies: Eddie Van Halen's Shoe Line, Lady GaGa's Horn, +

Unexpected, but cool? Eddie Van Halen's new sneaker line. [Men.style]

Lady GaGa grew a horn! A magical fabulous unicorn horn! [The Cut

She's also hoping to showcase her fashion designs in The Louvre. Pipe dream? [Showbiz Spy

At least Isaac Mizrahi admits it: "I am really a slob. It takes a lot of effort for me to look this put together. If I had my way, I would sit on the couch all day and eat ice cream and go to pieces with my dogs because that is the ultimate luxury to sit and watch TV with one's dogs. I don't get time enough to do that. My boyfriend thinks I'm a little nuts because that's all I want to do on my time off and he's bored with that. He wants to go to India or something, but I'm not doing that, it's too late for India." [Hactio]

The Marni Mix

MARNI1

Canvas, reserved nominally for warm weather schlepping or summer beach romping, is getting the Marni treatment for Fall. How so? Think accessories in a largely neutral palette with a few colorful standouts, like the pictured shoulder and travel bags that look equally sharp in grey or blue as they do in eye-popping yellow or green. Added in the mix are also a few fixes for your feet -- classic sneakers that adhere to the same natural tones, only to be cheekily adorned with a purple stripe or a bold red sole. With Marni, the bold is always most certainly beautiful.

MARNI2

Yellow shoulder bag: $660

Sneakers: $470

Messenger bag: $695

Travel bag: $990

Available at Marni boutiques nationwide this Fall.

Wolverine's 1,000 Miles

WOLV

Wolverine boots are constructed for all things work related, made with a certain hit-the-grindstone mentality that has been a part of the brand's, um, sole for 125 years. Now, Wolverine is releasing a remake of the classic 1000 Mile Shoe for Fall 09. But, there isn't just one 1000 Mile Shoe reincarnate. Instead, the company is putting up a full line of high-end boots that are chic and functional and perfect with jeans, a wool suit, or even with punky leather jacket. The 1,000 Mile Shoe starts $350 a pair, while the Garrison (top left), the Gentleman (bottom left) and the Gentry (bottom right) retail from $210 to $250. Check out their site, wolverine1000mile.com, for more info.

Quickies:Kanye West debuts his LV sneakers, Fashion Week ins and outs and more

Kanye West has been spotted wearing a pair of the Louis Vuitton sneakers he designed. They're a pristine white and will be available in June 2009, West claims. We also got to design a pair of shoes at our first internship. No big deal. [The Cut] via [Racked]

More Fashion Week casualites: Monique Lhuillier and Naeem Khan are also opting out of runway shows in favor of  presentations... [WSJ]

But Oscar de la Renta is adding a runway show? In response to a good year, he's not only hired 15 people but he'll add a second show -- one for retailers, the other for press -- during Fashion Week. Just rub it in everyone's faces why don't ya? [Fashion Week Daily]

You would totally D-I-E to spend day with Rachel Zoe if you could. Well, now you have your chance to win one. Piperlime.com is giving away a $10,000 prize package that includes a posh stay in L.A. for you and a friend, a shopping spree at the Zoe's favorite boutiques, and a chance to sashay the Hollywood sidewalks with Ms. Zoe herself. Proximity to hot-nerd assistant Brad Goreski is an added bonus. [Glamour]

Bernard Madoff has lost his dignity, obvi, but he also might lose his wardrobe.
His closet is reportedly filled with Savile Row duds from Kilgour. They'll do him no good in jail, so we're hoping for an estate auction in the near future. [WWD]

In other Bernard-Madoff-effed-me-over-news, Valentino may have been one of his many victims.
The fashion house has yet to comment. [WWD]

Today starts the five-week mega-sale period in France. Per usual, the shop-a-thon is being kicked off with the “Soldes by Paris” (“Sales by Paris”) three-day event which will feature some 3,000 retailers, including Galeries Lafayette and Printemps. We're packing our weekend bag already. [WWD]
