Serious runners know the lighter the shoe, the better. PUMA's L.I.F.T. Racer, which goes on sale this weekend in PUMA Concept Stores nationwide and at store.puma.com starting tomorrow, took this credo to heart, er, sole. The L.I.F.T. Racer is created from lightweight foam injected into a mold, forming its upper in one piece, so there's no gluing, no stitching and, most importantly, no excess weight. But, the price may be the most impressive feature; $75 fits snugly into any recession budget.
We're gaga for GaGa (Lady, that is) here at Out, and we couldn't be more excited for our San Francisco readers who'll get the chance to watch her perform live with DJ Steve Aoki at one of Puma's FREE 60th birthday celebrations on December 9!

Published in this week's DNR is the "Gen Y Wish List," a nation wide survey of 100 men, age 18 to 24, that tallies the top 12 labels gen-y males are most likely to gladly pay full price for. Listed by the percentage of respondents who ranked each brand in their top five, these are the 12 labels that young men somewhat surprisingly aspire -- and will shell out top dollar -- to own:
1. Polo Ralph Lauren - 17%
2. Giorgio Armani - 17%
3. American Eagle - 17%
4. Nike - 16%
5. Gucci - 16%
6. Abercrombie & Fitch - 15%
7. Banana Republic - 12%
8. Puma - 11%
9. Hollister - 11%
10. Tommy Hilfiger - 10%
11. Calvin Klein/ck Calvin Klein - 10%
12. Adidas - 10%
Sort of reads like a checklist for the local mall, right? We'll dispense a bit of leniency given the age group polled -- some youngsters just need a little time before they reach fashion maturity -- but we also wonder what the list would look like if 100 gays were surveyed. We can think a couple from the list above that would be scratched off immediately, and we'd add a few obvious gay faves -- Diesel, D&G, H&M, American Apparel (for basics in all colors of the rainbow) -- but how about the rest of you 'mos out there? If you're going to plunk down the cash and pay full price, what are the top 12 labels you'd break the bank for? Let us know and we'll post the results along with our own, albeit not-so-scientific list for gen-gay.
Puma has launched a men's and women's fragrance as a follow up to their 2003 Puma Flowing duo. This season's smells have been dubbed "Free Flowing Man" and "Free Flowing Woman." The men's fragrance is described as "a spicy citrus woods" and the women's fragrance simply makes me uncomfortable because of it's menstrual name. [Now Smell This]

While we sort of thought she was cute in The Princess Diaries, then applauded her for showing off her girls in Brokeback Mountain (but secretly despised her for getting to kiss Jake Gyllenhaal), and then fell head-over-heels for The Devil Wears Prada, Anne Hathaway has now become our new girl crush. She ditched her loser man and is looking more fabulous than ever. [The Cut]
Forget the bags for the women and the watches for men: designer shades are the new "it" accessory. Glad to hear my face isn't being shielded by my over sized Guccis for nothing...[NYT]
For all you daddies out there (legitimate and otherwise) David Beckham filmed a cameo for Sesame Street in which he almost "comes to blows" with Oscar the Grouch. It's always nice to find a program that kids and parents can agree on, because Mr. Becks can come to blows with me any day...[Mirror]
Former Guns n' Roses face shredder Slash is teaming up with longtime friend and "Australia's Next Top Model" stylist Jonathan Pease to develop a video game based on fashion and styling. Um...what? [Blabbermouth]
Puma rolled out the red carpet on Monday night at the Institute for Contemporary Art in Boston for the unveiling of “Il Mostro,” Puma Ocean Racing's new racing boat that will participate in the Volvo Ocean Race. Il Mostro’s "godmother" Salma Hayek christened the boat in Boston Harbor with the ceremonial cracking of a champagne bottle across the bow.
The boat is a second generation Volvo Open 70 racing boat and Puma went to great measure to give it a daunting appearance. “We were really trying to be intimidating with this design – a fearful
racing machine,” said Antonio Bertone, Chief Marketing Officer.
“That’s why it’s called il Mostro – the monster. We wanted the reaction to be ‘No way, look at that thing!’ and I think we accomplished that.”
In addition to joining the race, Puma launched the Sailing Lifestyle Collection, a full line of apparel, footwear and accessories beginning May 2008,
available at sailing specialty stores and select PUMA Concept Stores.
The Volvo Ocean Race is a 10-month, 37,000 mile race around the globe. And trust me when I say that being locked up on a boat with this crew for 10 months wouldn’t be such a bad thing. -- SETH HOWARD
To celebrate the release of Speed Racer, the CGI-heavy big-screen adaptation by Larry and Andy Wachowski of The Matrix fame, Puma, Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Productions teamed up to create some limited-edition kicks inspired by the film that is hyped to be the biggest blockbuster of the season.
The Puma Speed Racer shoe is modeled after Puma's Scattista model and features an environmentally-friendly method of construction that uses less waste while providing superior fit and comfort—the shoe's upper is sewn directly onto the sole. The sneak comes in two colorways, one in black, silver and yellow, and another in white and red. The shoes also feature super-reflective Puma and Speed Racer logos.
They won't make you drive any faster but feel free to blame your stylish footwear if you get pulled over and frisked for speeding.
The Puma Speed Racer Shoe will be available exclusively at Puma Concept Stores Nationwide beginning May 9th. The film opens in theaters nationwide on the same day.
Thierry Mugler's limited edition fragrance, Angel Men Pure Coffee receives a glowing and over-the-top gushing review from The New York Times proving the theory that a good journalist thrives on stress, deadlines and a steady supply of coffee. Do you like your coffee like you like your men? [NYT]

The '80s have officially come full circle. It was only a matter of time before the color-changing Hypercolor t-shirts you once loved were resurrected. This time, they've been reincarnated as a Puma shoe for sneaker connoisseurs.
The fabric of these sneakers is chemically treated to change color when exposed to various temperatures—like a mood ring for your feet. The colors shift from dark green to blue to deep purple and black.
Not only is its chameleon quality a throwback to earlier (and some
might say, less fashionable) times but the design of the sneaker is also
vintage classic. The "basket" style was originally introduced in
1971.
The only foreseeable problem is the color-changing makes it a difficult to wear if you are adamant about matching your kicks to your belt and bag.
There is something about sneakers that demands all excesses be forgiven: day-glo colors, clashing patterns, dubious technological advances (inflating air pods?) What's more, Gucci's hookup with Puma proves that even this most (pardon me) pedestrian section of the footwear marketplace is hot stuff.
Herewith, a guide to the season's hottest sneakers, with something (we hope) for every taste:
